Book updates!

Edits on my sixth book should be wrapped up this week and then I start working on the blurb and submission stuff so I can send it off to my Publisher. I don’t know why that part feels harder than writing the darn book, but there you go.

Some of you may have seen earlier updates and know that I decided to dip my toes into the sci-fi realm on this novel and I’m really pleased with how it came out. It was a stretch for me in several different ways,  so it took a little longer than usual to finish, but I think in the end it will be worth it. When I started it back in June the whole first month was just rewriting the opening scene over and over before I could move on. Now it’s turned into a nicely polished stand-alone novel, but does leave openings for sequels if it does well and that’s always good.

While I’ve been wrapping that up, I’ve been considering what I want to work on next. My idea file is huge, and I’ve got several novels in the early stages that I could pick up, but a new idea hit me, and I think I’m going to go with it. I saw some random comment on social media and suddenly the idea jumped fully formed into my head and I really think it wants to be written.

I’m not going to tell you much about it yet.  It was a popular mainstream fantasy niche back in the day, but I haven’t seen anyone writing it with a D/s theme, at least not recently, which is honestly surprising because I think it sets the scene perfectly for a Dom/sub relationship.

They say there are no new ideas under the sun, and maybe that’s true, but how you present an idea is what’s important–make it your own, put an unexpected spin on it. That’s what I try to do, so I don’t mind writing on a theme that is popular, like alien sci-fi, because I know my own take is always going to be unique. It’s actually kind of fun to join the crowd in a way, but there’s something to be said for standing alone too so I’m looking forward to presenting a theme that hasn’t been over-written.

Am I being vague enough? I know, I know. I’m not intentionally teasing, but I’d like to give it a good solid start before I go into details about it. The early plot ideas often change dramatically as they build and sometimes you realize early in that it’s just not working. Once it’s settled firmly, I’ll give you a heads-up on the latest.

In the meantime, Surrendering to Her General (working title, may change) should be submitted before February so wish me luck!
